MEET YOUR FINANCIAL CONSULTANTS

Joanne J. Cheechoo

Member of Eabametoong First Nation, Joanne J. Cheechoo has two decades of experience working with indigenous communities. Joanne studied Aboriginal Business Management and is trained in all aspects of financial administration including: project budgets, funding proposals, bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, payroll and remittances, disbursements, bank reconciliation, and other day-to-day financial tasks.

Joanne’s past roles include: Finance Manager at Kiikenomaga Kikenjigewen Employment & Training Services (aka Matawa Employment & Training Services); Matawa First Nation Post-Secondary Coordinator; Education Counsellor at Eabametoong First Nation Education Authority; and many other project management and education roles.

With a certificate in Native Counselling Training under her belt, she’s an excellent educator who enjoys supporting First Nation communities with engaging presentations and workshops.

As wife to one, mother to four, and grandmother of three, Joanne is a master multitasker who knows the importance of being incredibly organized!

Nadia La Russa

Award-winning serial entrepreneur Nadia La Russa has been working in the financial and business consulting sector since 1997. With an MBA in Executive Management and nearly 20 years of experience, Nadia is a skilled accountant, Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) and Sage Certified Consultant. Through Signature Financial, she has helped hundreds of organizations and individuals get in control of their finances and better plan for their future.

Nadia’s passion is First Nation education. As an adult educator at Oshki-pimache-o-win, she is skilled in the unique learning styles and potential of First Nation members. It is this passion and drive that propels her to ensure that each community has a firm understanding of their financial position. She believes that this knowledge will empower Chiefs and Council members to better serve their members in thriving, self-sufficient communities.

Nadia is a volunteer Treasurer for Footsteps Family Centre, providing relevant financial data for the centre which allows them to choose the best options for childcare. She’s also Financial Secretary to Grassroots Church in Thunder Bay. Giving them free financial consulting allows them to maximize their community efforts and give back to the community.

When not crunching numbers or embarking on a new business venture, Nadia enjoys spending time with her husband and five children.
